Question:
Post op with elevated liver enzymes
I am almost five months post-op and today when I was at my endocrinologist's office he told me that at my last visit I had way elevated liver functions. I have never had elevated liver functions before, and at my last endo appointment I was only a few weeks post-op. He is rechecking now that it has been a couple of months and wants to see if they are still elevated and if they are worse. I guess my question is to all the post ops, is this normal? And if not, what do they do about it? I know only my doctor can answer this one, but is it dangerous? I am just trying to get an overall picture of what I am dealing with. I will get the results in a few days. Thanks. — KLandrum (posted on October 4, 2001)

I have tracked my liver enzymes since before surgery, and they have gone
steadily and dramatically down. By one year, they were normal, after being
extremely elevated at my 3 month. There are several causes for elevated
levels, but obesity is the most common, in conjunction with a fatty liver.
The weight loss was all I needed to return mine to normal. -Kate-

Hi there, my liver panel was also extremely high post op. Three times the
normal. However now at almost 9 months post op they are back to normal. My
doctor thought that it was related to my obesity and then going into
Ketosis post op. Hopefully yours will steadily go down as well. Good luck!
