Question:
Any info regarding Dr. Meyerowitz in San Francisco?
Have heard a lot of thing about Dr. Meyerowitz who does operation for Northern Kaiser facilities such as mine in San Jose California. I have heard he is a very good Surgeon, but I have also heard he has an abrupt or standoffish manner, not necesarily unfriendly just very business like. I have also read thing like he does not have much of a dietary plan in place for pre op or post op. Other Seminars I have been to emphasize the certain things you should stay away from and they encourag Protien drinks and good amounts of Protein intake. Have heard that Dr. Meyerowitz does neither and suggest you eat whatever you are able to. Has anyone gone thru the process for surgery with Dr. Meyerowitz, and if so, do you have any information you can provide. Also, soes he do Lap Roux-En-y or open? Thanks TL — Terilyne R. I'm not a one of Dr. Meyorwitz's patients, but I am one of Dr. Wetter's
patients. Both doctors work out Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame.
Anne Timberlake is the Nurse Manager for both of them there at Mills.
There is also a nutritionist who works with both doctors' patients at
Mills. She gave a pretty good list of foods that I could and could not eat
at various stages. If you really want to talk to some of Dr. Meyorwitz's
patients you might consider attending the support group that meets at Mills
the third Saturday of each month. The first part of the meeting is a
"program" of some type and the second part of the meeting is
divided into discussion groups. Anne Timberlake moderates a session for Dr
Meyorwitz and Dr Wetter's patients. As far as I know Dr Meyorwitz only
does Open RNY. Dr Wetter does Lap, but not through Kaiser at this time.
Neither doctor encourages the use of protein supplements, they would rather
you get the protein you need from "real food". However, neither
are against an occasional protein shake or bar, especially if comes to a
choice between the supplement or skipping a meal. If you want more
information about the support group, please contact me privately. Regards,
Sharyle (who is almost 8 weeks post-op and who has lost 60#s!)
