Question:
Do most surgeons that do an RNY use a silastic ring?
This is to keep the opening from esophagus to stomach, or stomach to intestine (not sure which) from getting larger. Does this ring ever slip and is it an added risk? What is it attached to? How do advantages compare to risks? Seems like it may be something to go wrong later. — [Anonymous] (posted on August 28, 1999)

Well thats why I don't use them. I think that the long term track record
of bands placed in patients gi tract to restrict them is not good. The
most common problem seems to be erosion into the bowel.
