Question:
Severe itching after lipo.......
Ok so my skin is so very dry from my ps and lipo (the bruised areas are so tender as well) So I bought Gold Bond Ultimate lotion, hypoallergenic for severe dry skin. Well it got rid of the flaky peely skin but it makes me itch like a mad woman! Hypoallergenic my butt ( only itch where the lotion was) Well I read thru the ingrediants and lo and behold there is dimethicone in it, about 1 year ago I figured out I was allergic to it when my lips started bleeding and swelling with chapstick and thru trial and error that was the ingrediant that all the things I tried that ended up bothering me contained. Once I found a product without it my lips healed almost over night. I checked and most of my lotions have this in them! Any ideas what I can use to soothe my skin? Too large of an area (entire back, butt, hips and abdomen) to use hydrocortisone safely. I see myself standing in Walmart tonight reading every lotion bottle. Have to get more Benadryl to ease the reaction too. I wonder if maybe the itch is a reaction to the healing from lipo or really from the lotion? (PS was 2 weeks ago and still really swollen) Wendy — Wendy H. (posted on November 17, 2004)

Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion or cream is great!

Wendy I feel your pain as I am 1 week PO from a medial thigh lift and some
significant redo of my upper torso lift and the itchies have set in. This
is the third major PS I have had this year and the itching will drive you
NUTS!!! I had 4 liters of fat lipo'd out of my upper legs back in June, in
preparation for this skin removal, and I thought I would die from the
itching. Like you said, the problem is that the swelling and black and
blue hurts a lot and then having to scratch it makes it unbearable at
times. All I can tell you is that in time it does pass. I have used a
cool soothing lotion of any kind but it's very temporary relief. Even try
some cool washcloths to try and calm the area, just make sure any incisions
are dry when you are finished. In your case you may have an allergic
reaction on top of it. I'm so sorry!

The skin on my torso is pulled very tight again and the stretched
out stretch marks itch like unbeleiveable. I had some lipo done on my back
between the butt crack and waist, in a band about 5 inches wide and that is
very tender right now, so scratching is out of the question.

The swelling from lipo seems to last a lot longer than swelling
from cutting. At least that is my experience. I have at most 15% of the
swelling with this leg skin removal surgery than I had with the leg lipo.
I woke up from the leg lipo and right above the knee the area was the size
of a basketball and hurt like heck. The swelling did start to subside at
about 2 weeks and by 3 weeks I could fit back into some of my looser pants.
At 8 weeks they still had some minor swelling in them but not so most
would have noticed, just me. It will take a good couple months to see all
of the swelling gone. I had a LBL in late Feb and came out of surgery a
tight 16 misses. I went in a tight 16 women's. I had dropped to a 14 by
the time I had the upper torso work and leg lipo done in early June but
then went to sweats only or long dresses for about 4-6 weeks afterwards
because of the huge legs from the lipo. It took until about mid Sept till
I finally consistently reached a 12 misses and could count on them fitting
in any style. But by that time the upper torso had loosened and thickened
some and the waist tended to be quite tight. If that had not happened I
would have likely been able to get into many 10's. Now that the hourglass
shape has returned, but still quite swollen, I suspect in about 2-3 months
that in many cases 10's will fit. It does take a long time for every last
bit of swelling to disappear. You will think it's all gone and then a
month or two later you will realize that things fit looser and there must
have been some swelling left.

All I can say is hang in there as it does get better and the
results are definitely worth it!!

What about Vaseline, baby oil or (I know it sounds crazy) white Crisco. I
tell my patients to use it all of the time. I works wonders on the vagina.
