I also have a bmi above 60 and I also am unable to walk very far. In fact
my docotr just gave me handicap plates for my car. I feel what you are
going thru. I am worried about wether to get surgery at all. I hope you
can get it. When I look into it earlier this year. I was told that the
doctor would do me as RNY not lapband. I was hopeing for lap.
Good Luck.
PS-I have arthritis too am 6 feet tall and weigh over 450 pounds.

Just some encouragement. I started out at 470 lbs with a bmi of 67. 3
months leading up to surgery I lost 65 lbs. In the beginning I could only
walk for 10 min at a time. I worked up to 1 hr. If I can do it you can.
Just go slow, exercise at your own pace. Hopefully the doc will approve you
for surgery. Best of luck.

Just to answer the question on LAP from my experience, my surgeon said it
wasn't necessarily the BMI that determined that, it was how the abdomen
behaves when the patient is lying down. He had me lie down and checked to
see if my abdomen flattened out. I don't know if that's what they all do
but that's my experience.
