Question:
I've gained 3 lbs 4months post op, has anyone else done this?

My nutritionist said i'm not losing 10lbs a month like the Dr. wants, sometimes I feel like my stomach isn't smaller I can't tell when I'm not hungry or I am hungry. I wonder if anyone else has felt this way.    — Deborah (posted on October 17, 2003)

I had to measure everything I ate for a very long time. I still at 9 months post op have a hard time knowing if I am hungry or not until I am famished or dizzy. I also get the head hunger thing from time to time. If you are eating more than you think you should be able to my guess is that you are probably eating carbs. I can eat way more of the soft carby things than I can of straight protein. Also the carbs do not keep me full or give me a real sense of satiety. Protein on the other hand fills me up and keeps me full and satisfied for a long time and I still can only eat 2-3 ounces. At 4 months post op you are still in a window of great losing opportunity and should take full advantage of it. This tool does not allow the weight loss forever. I am glad that you are seeing a nutritionist. Try writing down every morsel that enters your mouth for a week and then go over it with her and make any adjustments that need to be made now. It is still very hard for me to track what I eat without a food journal and when I do it regularly it is very obvious what I am doing right or wrong.

I don't have the problem of appetite, I'm never hungry, so portion control isn't a big issue for me, unless I eat too quickly, which leads me to occaisionally eat too much.. BUT, I did gain 5-6lbs at the two month mark, and was devastated... my surgeon's nurse practitioner assured me it is normal, and I would continue losing... I have....if you are eating well, according to your docotor and nutritionist's guidelines, don't stress, you'll lose at your body's own speed. Good luck to you.

What kind of surgery did you have? Your profile doesn't say.

Just an idea, but it may just be a gain because of the time of the month. Personally I seem to only loose weight during half of the month, after my periods. You may not have noticed or tracked it since you are only a few months out. Dont worry, those 3 pounds will soon be gone and forgotten.
