Question:
Why is my hair oily?

I am one month post-op and although I have never had oily hair prior to surgery, I have it now. I have tried changing shampoo, skipping conditioner, minimal brushing/touching of my hair and even a dandruff shampoo -nothing is working. Is this a result of the surgery/weight loss and does anyone know if it's permanent?    — Michelle L. (posted on July 13, 2003)

I believe it's because of the estrogen being released out of the fat cells as you lose. Some people complain of acne for the first time too. My face is actually clearing up now (because I'm drinking pure water for the first time). I think it will pass.

Strange...my hair got very dry. Still almost 2 years post op I am still dealing with the effects of the surgery on my hair. Sigh.
