Question:
I'm 9 months post-op and just got a positive test result. How safe is this?
I'll be 9 months post-op Open RNY and 1 week post-op Lap Gallbladder surgery and just took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. I know there are a lot of women who became pregnant sooner after their surgery than this but are there those who were 9 months out who had serious complications with their pregnancy? I'm excited yet scared to death at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your support. — Rebekah A. (posted on June 11, 2003)

In March I was 9 months post op and pregnant, this month I will be 1 year
post op, 3 months pregnant, and 35lbs from my goal weight. I have had no
problems with the pregnancy because for the most part the fetus will always
get what they need first and you get to keep what is left over (general
rule), However I have not lossed a pound since I became pregnant. I am not
trying to say that I want to endanger my pregnancy by loosing weight during
this period however I am still overweight and it is going to take the other
9 months of my 18 month window. So I guess the point is that when you
choose to have the wls you should get to your goal weight before planning a
pregnancy because you shouldn't be loosing weight during pregnancy and it
can be more difficult to loose the rest of your weight. Good Luck
