Question:
Any tips to boost energy level and protein intake?

#1) I am about 3 weeks post op and down 20 pounds or so. I am having a tough time finding sources of protein that don't make me sick. Soy, whey, bars - I've tried them all but nothing is working. Are there any pill forms of protein? Any suggestions? #2) What can I do to boost my energy level? I feel like I'm about to pass out at walking or even working the full day (at a sit down job). Any advice on how to boost energy levels? I've even tried to work out and needed help to my car afterwards. Sad and funny ...but true.    — Jammie J. (posted on March 17, 2003)

No one has invented a protein pill yet. I am sure that the person that does will be an overnight millionaire! I take Real Meals. It has the most protein per ounce of any protein product made (60 grams) So you can break it up into 4 mini shakes a day and still get a full day's protein plus over 40 other vitamins and nutrients. Go to www.protein-solution.com for more information.

I had the same problem as you. I couldn't tolerate the whey and couldn't stand the taste of the soy based drinks. I use Proteinex. You can find it on this website. It tastes like cough syrup, But 3 quick tablespoons 3 times a day and I have 60 grams of protein in. They also have a pill version - 6 pills for 15 grams. But the pills are quite big. As far as energy goes, month 2 is much better than month 1. At 3 weeks, I was extremely tired and wondered if it was ever going to be better. At month 2, I was getting enough protein, thanks to proteinex and my energy levels started coming up. Keep going. 51lbs gone forever. Mary

At 3 weeks, I was getting my protein from chicken and turkey - pureed, mixed with Soup at Hand cream of chicken, cottage cheese and so forth. Are you getting in enough water? If you are aboe to eat bars at this stage, try some tender chicken or turkey, and chew it well. Take it easy until your body stabilizes. You have been through an ordeal and your body is trying to tell you something here! As obese people, we have learned to ignor our own body's signals - ignored actual hunger how many times in an effort to lose weight over the years? Instead of trying to work out, walk a bit each day to build endurance and drink plenty of water and eat a variety of healthy foods. Good luck!

Hi! I'm 11 days post-op and have been mixing Milk & Egg Protein powder by MLO with a protein drink like Boost or Myoplex or yogert and it tastes great. I got it at Fred Meyer in the Nutrition section. The powder smells kinda like a cake mix and tastes good mixed with things. I've not tried it alone mixed with water. It has 21 gms of protein per 2 heaping tablespoons full and really adds up. Thanks to this powder I'm able to get all my 50 gms in per day. Good luck to you.
