Question:
If I diet and lose .. then Ins says I dont need wsl .. if I diet and dont lose ..
they say I would not do well with surgery because I cannot follow thru .. But yet they demand an 8mo Dr suppervised diet before approval. What's up with that? Isnt it a lose lose situation? — Sarah H. (posted on March 7, 2003)

I think the insurance companies force the supervised dieting, in hopes that
you WILL do well, and they can say you don't need surgery....since doing
poorly will only reinforce that simple dieting doesn't work for MO
people... one thing I suggest is speak with your surgeon... mine said that
since it would be a while before my surgery date, he could weigh me at my
initial, and discuss proper eating, and then weigh me at my subsequent
visits, and regardless of how I did, it would still count as my supervised
dieting for insurance. He also assured me that the weight sent in for
insurance approval would be the weight I was at my first appointment, so I
could lose weight without fear of not being able to have surgery. I have
since lost 10 lbs, but no more, since I'm enjoying foods while I can...LOL.
