Question:
I have sent in my family doctors letters, my pych. evaluation, other doctors letters
My question is who gets in touch with the insurance co to see if they will pay? I see where other call their insurance co. My insurance is Medicare. When I called them they told me they don't pre-approve. I called my secondary insurance and they said they would pay whatever Medicare doesn't. So I don't know anything more then I did before. Will the doctors office handle this when they get all your papers? — Carol H. (posted on February 1, 2003)

it sounds like you good to go once you get the insurance to ok the
procedure. the dr i used for my surgery had a wonderful woman in his
office. (titled bariatric coordinator) it was her responsibility to get
the insurance approval. it might be best to talk to the office staff at
your dr's office and check how they handle getting approval. it might
already be taken care of!! good luck!

I too have Medicare and I just had my surgery 1-21-03. My Dr.'s office
took care of all the paper work for me. Since Medicare doesn't
pre-approve, I had to sign a paper saying I would self-pay if they would
not cover it. From what I understand is, if it is medically necessary they
will pay. The only waiting I had for paperwork was from Medicaid which is
my secondary insurance, but if yours already said they would pay, then I
would assume it's a go. Good luck and best wishes on your journey!
