Question:
Has anyone had problems or success getting the Alta Bates Med Grp to refer
I have Pacificare HMO and have my first PCP appt for Feb 3rd. I have made a huge begging letter with med/diet history and some medical articles to take along. I have been told the Alta Bates medical group are pretty open minded about referrals. HAs anyone any experience? Also, Has anyone been approved for WLS with PCOS as a comorbid? I have a BMI over 40 so I hope this doesn't matter but I want to give them as many reasons for WLS as I can. — Yvonne E. (posted on January 15, 2003)

Alta Bates is a very progressive unit, so just arm yourself with as much
information as you can. The less the doctor's know of you the more you
need to know about you. Make sure that you have a list of your diets, the
reason why you believe the surgery is important, (not a medical definition)
make it personal. The more you show them that this isn't something that
you got off a daytime talk show, but is a well thoughtout researched
decision, the quicker it will go for you.

If your BMI is over 40, and you have a recent diet history, you don't need
any co-morbids according to PacifiCare's benefits. I know, I work there.
Let me know if you need any help.
