Question:
Can I be eating too little??

I use fitday.com and my calorie tally is about 350-500 a day. I am doing mostly protein and hardly any carbs and very low fat. Getting 60-70 grams of protein and 70 ounces of water a day but have not lost a ounce in 2 weeks. I had open RNY october 29th.I am feeling better then I have in years, no lack of energy. And I have lost 51lbs.    — Wendy H. (posted on January 6, 2003)

While I am still a pre-op for a little while longer, my research seems to be endless. I think I am growing to my keyboard!!!! Actually this question came up at our last support meeting. Many people suggested that you actually start eating more, most importantly more protein and that will usually jump start your loosing again. If you can get it down, it might be worth a try. Good luck to you.

Despite some of the crazy advice on this board, your body does need some fat and carbs to function at its best and to lose weight. If your body thinks it's starving, it will go into "starvation mode" and will hold on to every single ounce. Yes, we definitely should try to get our carbs from the best sources (fruits/vegs/grains) rather than refined sugars which will cause us to dump and gain weight, but we shouldn't avoid carbs altogether. Also, we should get a decent amount of fats (preferably unsatured) such as nuts, fish, etc. If we don't, our skin and hair will fall to sh*t. Yes, it sounds to me like you're getting too few calories by far. I found that I lost most consistently (and healthfully) when I ate between 700-900 calories/day. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get to this level until about 6 months post-op. I have now lost over 200 lbs. and feel GREAAAAT! At nearly two years post-op, my weight loss has slowed to a crawl and I can eat nearly 1500 calories/day ... still have 30 lbs. to go, and it is quite a challenge, but the weight is still dripping off slowly but surely. Now it's only about 1 lb./month rather than 10 lbs./mo., but it's still going ....
