Question:
is dumping a temporary thing?
I rececntly went to a pre-op education class and one of the women that was teaching it (she had wls a few years ago) said that dumping is something that happens after surgery when you eat sugar or fat but eventually it will not effect us this way, is this true? Will we not dump after awhile? — jerzeygirl71 (posted on August 26, 2002)

You can definitely "break" your dumpometer, but the good news is
that it can be reset. The more sugar/simple carbs you eat, the better your
body handles it. That is bad news because then you don't have that check
for your system anymore. To reset your dumpometer, abstain from sugar and
simple carbs for a few days. I have done this and it works. I was at the
point where I could eat up to 25g sugar at a time (my initial limit was
6g!) so I reset my dumpometer and it seems to be right at 10-12g which is
acceptible for me. Hope this helps!

I am four months post-op and still dump when eating any sugar (above 5
grams of sugar/serving) and fatty foods really make me dump... like
dark-meat chicken, anything fried (even lightly, like tempura). I hope this
always works... because I am even afraid to try anything that might set it
off. Unfortuanately I do have post-op friends who never dump.. some can
have an unbelievable amount of alcohol, some can eat regular ice cream,
etc.
Good Luck!
