Question:
Are there any lightweights out there that did not have problems with loose skin?
My doctor says that I am a "lightweight" LOL, I am 31 years old 5'9" and weigh 268lbs. I have a BMI of 40.7 so I just barely made the cut off for the surgery. Is there anyone out there with similar dimensions that could tell me if they had problems with loose skin post-op. — Linda A. (posted on April 25, 2002)

I am still waiting for surgery, but my girlfriend who started out at 270
and now is about 130 had the loose skin for a while and now it's gone away.
She was pretty firm to begin with as well, but was not an exerciser.

5 mo. post-op lightweight. Started with a BMI 40. I am 30 lbs. from goal
and doing pretty good in the skin department. My arms are fine, so far.
My belly is a tad bit loose, but I will give it time to shrink back after I
get to goal. My boobs are great, they did deflate a lot, but still look
good. Probably due to the fact that I had a breast reduction/lift 8 years
ago. I'm hoping I won't have to do any reconstructive surgery.

I'm a lightweight...bmi was 40.7 and my surgery was 11/16/01...I have
terrible loose skin in my belly...I am at goal (I can't explain that either
LOL) and have already had a TT consult. Awaiting insurance approval...have
skin rash and pannus hangs over pubic area...I'm going to be 33 in May.
I've also had two pregnancies while MO and that may have something to do
with loose skin and it not "bouncing back"...gall bladder has
gone bad on me and surgeon is hoping to do TT and gall bladder at same
time.
Good luck.

I was also a lightweight (257 5'7" 32 years old) and am at goal (141),
my skin has bounced back amazingly well. I am a little loose all over, but
have gone through this with all stages of this weight loss, it seems to
take some time, but does firm up at least for me.

I am 5'8", 55 years old. I started at 266 and 5 months later I am
down 70 pounds. I do have some loose skin under my arms and neck...If my
neck doesn't firm up I will have it taken care of. You are younger...may
not have the problem. My stomach isn't too bad at all. I am excited to be
35 pounds from goal. I think 160 is low enough for my age and height. I
exercise but not as much as I did at first...it could be the heat of the
summer. This is the best thing I ever did for myself.

Well, I was 5'9.5" and 290lbs. I'm now 5'11" and 160-165. I
don't have obviously hanging skin. When I mend over, though, my breasts
and my tummy do hang.

I was a lightweight (266, bmi 40) had surgery 11-26-02. I have lost 93lbs.
I have some loose skin on hips & thighs but not too bad, can live with
it--but my breasts are limp little things (42D to 36C). I am considering a
lift.

I was just 40 BMI when I had surgery and while I have loose skin I don't
think it's anything that some exercise couldn't cure. I don't see myself
having gobs of plastic surgery. If I get into a regular exercise program
(at almost a year out I still haven't done that due to my crazy schedule
and a major car accident and related injuries) I think I could probably
tone up "most of the way". Maybe some lipo is in my future and
if I was single and "looking" perhaps I might consider a breast
lift but overall things are pretty good considering.

I had surgery 3 years ago and started out with a BMI of not quite 38... I
am 52 years old, 5'9" tall and consistently weight between 142 and 147
pounds. I lost about 100 pounds. I have a little lose skin, not much...
ask me if I care!

I had the same body type as you...5'9" and 267...i am down almost 100
pounds...98 to be exact...the loose skin i have is a little jiggly under
the arms and at the area where your bra sides are...i am 43 y.o. and
exercise occasionally...i know if i did more, it wouldn't be like jello any
longer!

Yes I am also a light weight I started out at 5"4 232-240 pounds with
a BMI of 39.8 I think. I have had no problems with any extra skin; however
I had to work very on tightening up my legs and arm to build muscle. My
stomach is totally flat, I must say that I like the way I look and for the
fist time in a while I have no problems taking off my clothes. It also
depends on how long you were over weight, I wasn't over weight that long.
Good luck to you you'll be fine.

Hey there; Well, I guess Im one of the unfortunate ones, lol. I started
with a BMI of 48, 5'3", 281 and now I am just a year out and Im 130
pounds now ~ Now, I HAVE had 3 kids, so I had a lot of stretching with my
kids, but I do have alot of skin on my tummy and bottom ~ It actually makes
it hard to find clothes cause of the skin but when I do put on clothes you
cant really tell ~ One lady even said "Wow, you had a tummy tuck
huh??" and I said "NO, but thank you!" Either way, Im very
happy with the new me, but will be doing some reconstructive work this
summer to complete my transformation :)
Good luck to you!
