Question:
What else can cause no monthly cycle?
This is scaring me..... I have talked with my doctor about me not having my period in 2 months and he says it because of the stress I am going thru with this waiting on surgery approval. Well, I have been approved (surgery date November 27th) and I still haven't seen my cycle. What's going on? Has this happened to anyone before? I know I am not pregnant. Could it be because of the weight I have put on in the last 2 months? — sistabodean (posted on October 29, 2001)

Hi Erica,
I,too, have absences of periods for months at a time, and when I finally do
get one it lasts for like two weeks!!!
At first,my doc said it was from taking the birth control pill for so long
and then all of sudden dropping it.He gave me a pill to start it up
again, which worked, but not for long. Then my doc says that it is weight
related. It is more common than you think among obese women.I've gone four
months w/out a period, but do eventually get it.You could also still be
going through a little stress and anxiety about surgery and not know
it.Hope this helps and congrats on your date, pray and crosss your fingers
for me :)

PCOS - is a cause of ammenoreah (lack of periods). You can see if you have
PCOS (a co-morbidity in some cases that can be used to get approved for
surgery) by going to http://www.pcosupport.org/ and taking the
"test".
or read my site- if any of it sounds familiar- you may have it. PCOS
symptoms are different in every woman- it is not just a period issue. As
far as symptoms go, you could have one symptom or all symptoms- it is
classified as a syndrome rather than a disease because of this.
Classic symptoms:
No period (Amenorreah) * Being Hairy- Male Patterned on Face/Body etc.
(Hirsutism) * Male Patterned Baldness (Alopecia) * Mood Swings/Depression *
Acne * Infertility *
High Testosterone levels * Obesity (which leads to dozens of other
symptoms) * acanthosis nigricans (dark patches of skin) * diabetes- The
"cosmetic" symptoms can be "hidden" with BC Pills (the
most common prescription for this syndrome) and therefore your PCOS never
"discovered" until later... however, the pill becomes useless in
combating these symptoms- and you're back to square one. Quite a few
Doctors are unaware of THAT FACT.

At least you arent bleeding for months at a time like I am. I've had all
the tests done and there really isnt anything abnormal except my weight.
I'm hoping once i have the surgery and lose the weight that the problem
will stop.

Having one forever, or not having one- it all still sucks to even have
abnormalities and having to address them. One is no 'better' than the
other!

My period was due in July the same day as my gallbladder surgery. I did
not start. The next month, I had gallstones removed on the day I was to
start. September came and I was to start the day of my Gastric Bypass.
Nothing happened. The doctor said my system was probably just too messed
up from all of the surgeries. I finally started 3 weeks ago, skipped a
week and started again. This time it has lasted 10 days and counting. The
doctor has suggested that I have a D&C. I want to wait to see if it
clears up on its own.
