Question:
I am six weeks post op and all of a sudden I can gulp fluids. It started last night
and I am wondering why. I am not complaining because now I can finally get in the fluids that I need, but I am wondering why one minute I have to sip or my stomach will hurt and the next minute I can gulp? Weird huh? — Dawn H. (posted on August 30, 2001)

I too can drink fluids quite quickly. I don't get it myself. I am 4.5
months post op, and I've been able to actually drink for a while now. Good
luck to you

I don't know if I have any real information, but here is how it works for
ME: I have a lot of trouble drinking water (even sipping) unless I have
been working hard and am low on fluids. For some reason then I can drink
like 10-16 ounces in short order. If I am sitting down watching TV or
working at my desk, drinking water is unbelievably hard! I don't know why
this is, but I am glad that at least I can drink the water when I really
need it. And another weird thing, I can drink other liquids fairly fast,
just not water.

I am two months out and it is now the same for me....the gulping.
Honestly, I think it is just that liquids pass right through our new
stomachs. Yeah, it was slower in the beginning, but at the time our new
stomachs were swollen and tight from the trauma they had undergone. I
think it takes about a month for them to get over that.

Hi, I too at 1 month post op can gulp water. Which has made it a heck of
a lot easier to get in a 100 oz'z a day. I was told by my doc that
liquids, go right through you and don't stay in the stomach like solids do.
I wouldn't worry about it, but if it's really concerning you, contact your
Dr. :)
