Question:
What happens with aftercare when I change insurance?
I already had Open RNY surgery, but now my husbands company is changing from Oxford insurance to Aetna. I was wondering if my post op care will be considered pre existing? Also would Aetna still pay for a Tummy Tuck after I lose all of my weight if medically necessary? I am confused about all of this. — Dawn H. (posted on August 28, 2001)

This will not be prexisting. I have heard great things about Aetna
regarding WLS but dont know about the tucks etc.. as with anything it will
have to be medically necessary so definitely document the problems and see
your primary care physician about them. Pictures help too.

Hi Dawn - I had my surgery May 29, 2001 (I had Aetna - I LOVED THEM) and
then my company changed to United Health Care on July 1, 2001. My
surgeon's original fee included 6 months of aftercare - so I am covered
until November 2001, then hopefully UHC will pick up the rest of the
follow-up. I am hoping for NO problems with them, but we all know how that
goes. Good Luck! Karan
