Question:
Doctor supervised diet.
Help! I was just denied because they didn't send in any doctor supervised diet history. I have been overweight since I was at least 13. I started on Weight Watchers then and multiple other diets since then. I went to a doctor in June of 2000 because of my diabetes and they put me on a diet for diabetics but I never went back to see him. I didnt like the doctor, but stayed on that diet. Any help Please.. — Marsha W. (posted on July 30, 2001)

Hi, I am on the same insurance plan as you (Aetna managed choice) and they
denied me too for the same reason. I went to my primary care physician and
he wrote a strongly worded letter listing all my attempts at weight loss
along with my co-morbidites. They OK'd the surgery after this, and they
didn't ask for any kind of proof that my diets were
"doctor-supervised." Since you *did* follow a doctor-supervised
diet, I would contact that doctor and have him send your records when you
make your appeal to Aetna. If your PCP won't help you writing an appeal
letter, find one who will! Good luck!
