Question:
Does anyone get Migraine headaches?
I used to get migraines occasionally, but haven't had one for over 10 years. Now, at 9 months post op, I have had two in about 10 days with all the related neurological affects. I sure thought I had outgroen them & am NOT happy to have them back. Has anyone else noticed a recurrence of migraines? What do you do for your migraines? Does anyone else have trouble speaking & thinking clearly while in the throes of a migraine? Thanks for your help. — Kathy W. (posted on January 21, 2001)

Kathy, I have not had my surgery yet but I do currently suffer from
migraine headaches. You indicated that you hadn't had a migraine in
approximately 9 years. It could very well be that because of the
physiological changes your body is going through (as well as emotional,
etc.), your migraine triggers has reappeared. I would suggest you talk
with your physician or ask for a referral to a Neurologist to have your
migraines assessed. There are wonderful migraine medications available now
that are much more "patient-friendly" than they were a few years
ago such a Zomig (which I take when needed). If you suffer from them
several times a month, your doctor may want to put you on a prophylaxis
treatment of Atenolol (a hypertensive) and a low dose of Elavil. It works
like magic!! Keep in mind that in most women, migraines can be triggered by
hormonal fluctuations as well as other types of triggers. Keep a headache
diary and let your doctor know when they happen (morning, evening, before
or after your periods, etc.) and the severity (on a scale of 1-10). Hope
this helps. Good luck!

I had the same problem of migraines every week. It turns out it was
associated with the amount of estrogen I was taking and the amount of
estrogen in the fat cell being released due to the weight loss. My dr
adjusted the estrogen level and I havn't had a migraine in months

I don't have migraines, but do have another type of "sick"
headache--I forget the kind. I had headaches for a week and they went away
after I ate a cheeseburger!?! I started thinking "What could be in
that cheeseburger that I am missing?" Not protein--I was getting
plenty. Surely not fat. I didn't eat much of the bun, so not carbs. I was
stumped for two days. Then I realized that I had switched my vitamins to a
kind with no iron. I bought an iron supplement and the headaches went away.
I have since switched back to the vitamins with the iron in them to make
sure I get it every day. My head felt kind of "fuzzy" until I got
this straightened out, too. Don't know if that is the problem for you, but
I know I sure felt lousy until I got that fixed! Hope this helps--I know
those headaches are the worst.

I am 1 week post op, and before surgery I would get 1- 2 migraines a week.
Actually the day of surgery I had a awful migrain. Since the surgery I did
have a couple bad headaches in the hospital, but since I have been home, I
haven't had any. 1 week with no migraine is a great week! :)
