Question:
Does anyone know if insurance will pay for liposuction in the thigh area?
My insurance did pay for a Panni & lipo in my stomach area, but I do not know if they will pay for the thighs, Does it have to be deemed medically necessary? If not I will pay for it, But it is about $5000.00 for 2 sections, hip and thighs. — peaceangel58 (posted on December 5, 2000)

I'm presently recovering from brachioplasty (bat wing) and breast reduction
and lift a week ago (picture me typing with arms at my side) and while I
don't know the precise answer to this question, I can tell you that my
insurance companies (United Health Care, surgical & Empire BC/BS,
hospital) stated in my preapproval letter that use of liposuction would
render the procedure cosmetic and no longer reconstructive. However, while
I may have a "little" lipo, my need is to get rid of loose and
hanging skin. I'm having an abdoplasty at the end of the month and then
lower body and thigh lift. Are you sure you don't need redundant skin
reduction rather than liposuction?
