Question:
How long does it take to go from first consult to surgery date?

I have my initial surgical consult on 2/29/00. I'm wondering how quickly the surgery is scheduled, assuming I meet the criteria, pass the tests, and my insurance approves. How long is the pre-op process? Could I get it done before Thanksgiving?    — Aurele K. (posted on January 20, 2000)

Hi Aurele: I think it is different with drs., insurance co. etc. but my first contact with my Dr. office to fill out all the papers was mid July 99, My approval from Insurance mid September my consultation and psychological Oct 22 and my surgery Nov. 10, 99. From what I have read from other people, the insurance approval may take the longest time. i would think you should be all done and healed by Thanksgiving if your insurance cooperates. Good Luck. I mailed back the applicaton/insurance papers right after New Year's Day 2001, I had everything approved by 3/31/01, got final consultation on 4/13/01 and waited until end of July to get my surgery date of 9/6/01. The waiting for the date was the hardest!!! I know my md is thorough and the program manager is very nice (when you can get through to her!), but 9 months seemed like forever.
