Question:
How soon before I can return to work as a Barber-standing for long periods of time?
I am seroiusly considering having the surgery. I am concerned about how soon I may be able to return to work. I am a barber and I have to stand on my feet 8-10 hours per day. I am also constantly raising my arms as part of my occupation. I would like to hear from someone who has had the surgery whose job also requires standing for long periods of time and use of arms. How long did you have to say off work and what are some of the work related problems you experienced? — Angie W. (posted on June 23, 1999)

My job did not require me to be standing for long periods
of time, but I went back to work at 4 weeks. That really was
more than sufficient time. And by then I was getting cabin
fever.

Angie! I am also a barber, standing the same number of hours as you. I had
my RNy 3-11-98 and because I also own my own shop, could not be off ( I
thought) very long. I took off 3 weeks, and tryed to go back part time. My
back bothered me right off and then I hurt myself trying to turn a 300lb +
person in my chair( imagine that) So then I had to cancell people and be
off another 2-3 weeks. I tell everyone, I don't care what job you have you
need 6 weeks t o recover enough to go back to work full time. Think of it
as a investment in your future. E mail me personally if you want more
"shop" RNY info.......
