Question:
How do I get rid of my double chin?
I love that I am looking better. I am 6 mons post op and 75 pounds down. I love to look at pictures of me. I am amazed that I don't feel the need to run from camera's. ONE THING... I CRINGE at the sight of my profile in a pic! Is there something I can do to get rid of this extra chin or whatever ya want to call it? Is there a trick? Ya know, like hitting your chin with the back of your hand or sleeping with a band around it??? Sounds so silly, I know. But it's really bothering me! I try to keep my hair down to hide my profile! I don't want to have to do that cuz my face is actually looking kinda pretty lately! ;) Thanks in advance! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on September 13, 2005)

I hesitated in responding to you because there are so much worse hanging
skin and pain problems after weight loss then the neck.
I personally have had to have a breast reduction and a tummy tuck with
hernia repair. I am scheduled for a arm lift and maybe next year a face
lift. If the only problems you are having is a hanging neck, consider
yourself very lucky.
This does not mean that I think you are being vain, it is only that I have
the hanging neck also, so I do understand how it makes you feel. There is
no excercise that I know of that can tightning that hanging skin under your
neck, if I was you, I would start looking at a neck/face lift.

I have other problems. But thighs and wings are very easily covered.
There is no hiding your face. Hmm... unless I convert to one of the
religions that requires me to hide everytrhing but my eyes with a scarf...
that's tempting.
Anyway... forget the whole freaking question.

Sara, I can so relate to your question. I have no hanging skin that can't
be camoflaged EXCEPT the chin. I had about three before I lost weight so
now I just have one that looks like a turkey gobbler. Oh well, I don't know
of anything to fix it. Didn't check to see how old you are but it may be
that it will begin to tighten up for you some if you still have pretty good
elasticity in your skin. I don't plan to have PS so I just don't look at
my chin or neck but if I had the money, I'd have it fixed in a New York
minute! Somebody on this forum had suggested a series of exercises for the
face that actually firmed the neck muscles and reduced the appearance of
the chin but I don't ever remember to do them and I don't remember who
posted it. You might search the archives for face and neck and see what you
find. Congrats on your 75 pounds!

Hi Sara, me again. I just looked at your profile and you look wonderful.
Bet you a dollar that you won't even have an extra chin by the time you get
to goal! It hardly shows now in the pics so bet it will go away completely.

Richard Simmons has an exercise video out called Everyday with Richard
Simmons. At the end of the workout, he has face and neck exercises and they
are WONDERFUL!!! I have lost 84 pounds, 206.6 down to 122.4 and have no
hanging skin on my neck, no double chin whatsoever. People look at me and
tell me they would never have guessed I was ever overweight. I know it's
because of these exercises. If for some reason you can't find this video,
email me and I will explain the exercises to you so you can get started on
them. Believe me -- THEY WORK!!! Good luck! Pam N.

I've lost over 100 pounds before and got to looking pretty good. During
that time, I did exercises my Grandmother used to do. She would make all
kinds of funny faces, and I'd ask her what she was doing. The answer was
"trying to touch my nose with my chin" or "trying to see how
big I can make my neck". I would do these in the car on the way to
work every morning. Jut out your chin and lift it about 50 times. Grimace,
and flex your neck muscles as much as your can. She used to always wear to
bed, a stocking wrapped under her chin and tied on top of her head. I never
did that - and doubt its effectiveness.

I tried this, and it really seemed to work for me. (I have a short stumpy
neck, and have always had a flabby chin even before I gained weight.)
Tilt your head back until your chin feels "tight", then recite
your vowels with very exaggerated mouth movements. "Aaaay .. Eeeee ..
Iiiii .. Oooooo .. Uuueewww .. Yyyeeee" .. Do this as often as you can
without people thinking you are a lunatic. :) I used to do it while
driving, and it did help.

You will not have to worry about that in a few months your face looks like
it is doing great with the weight loss. I wouldnt worry about it.

I wouldnt really worry about "double chin" too much, but if it
really bothers you a lot, seek the advise of a surgeon who has a lot of
experience in that area. Good luck, and I think you look fine the way you
are!
