Question:
Hi everyone. My insurance has an exclusion
that states no surgical treatment for obesity. Do I have a chance because they dont say morbid obesity? My BMI is 43 and I have several comorbids (asthma, acid reflux, back pain). Do I just send in the info and give it a shot? Thanks ahead of time. — Leslie S. (posted on December 28, 2004)

You would have to get an attorney's opinion on the wording. As far as your
co-morbids, only the acid reflux is one of them that would qualify you
unless your back pain is from a degenerative condition. Back pain in itself
is not a co-morbid. A co-morbid has to be a disease that is life
threatening. The asthmas maybe one but I do not think that it is the result
of your obesity. Good luck.

Make sure your insurance covers the tests needed to prove you need surgery.
Psych eval, etc. - talk to your surgeon. Then I'd say just go for it!
All they can do is say no!
