Question:
If there is a change in kidney function after wls surgery what is it?
I have an atrophied kidney. The functioning kidney is very large and my kidney function, according to my nephrologist is about 70%. A couple of weeks ago I was told by a physician's assistant in my surgeon's office that I needed to be cleared by the nephrologist for wls because something changes as a result of the surgery. He didn't explain what. I haven't seen anything in the information I've been reading. I know that people waiting for kidney transplant, but who need to lose weight first have had wls. — Sister Jo H. I too have an atrophic kidney.(Mine is congenital) I had to have my
nephrologist clear me as well, mostly due to the high amount of protein we
must include in our diets. My remaining kidney functions fairly close to
100% even after 3 toxic/diabetic pregnancies. He told me WLS can be a
strain but just to keep the consumption of liquids high enough to flush the
protein thru easily and all will be fine. Relax, they just want you to have
the best outcome you can. I am at 1.5 years and doing fine.
