Question:
When you drink liquid does it feel you up?

I have noticed that sometime when I drink water or anything I often feel very full. Does liquid pass right through your pouch or does it fill you up? I have been told both, but it has just started feeling that way. Can it strecth out your pouch? Thanks in advance for all of your answers.    — LeeAnn W. (posted on June 25, 2004)

ROFL! Great typo in the title question. My first thought was "Damn, no, it doesn't! Is it supposed to? DENIED!!"<P>I find that most liquids do pass through in a few minutes, but sometimes I feel full for longer on liquids. Sometimes not. It doesn't stretch out your pouch, though, it flows right through.

Hmm.. No, I don't believe I have ever been felt up by my liquids.. drat! :) I don't know what kind of surgery you had and I know nothing about the RNY etc.. I know that with the nonadjustable band, we are told to drink no more than 3oz of liquid an hour. If you are really thirsty, maybe an ounce every ten minutes... but for us, YES it will stretch the pouch and possibly make it lose elasticity and remain larger.. it could also cause the top heavy, liquid filled portion to overlap and droop down over the band. When this top part of the stomach touches the bottom part, the stomach tends to grow back together and will basically absorb the band and completely undo the surgery or cause a complicated entrapment. My personal theory is that if you drink on an empty stomach, it has less likelihood of expanding the stomach.. depending on the thickness and the carbonation of the liquid... but if you eat something and then drink immediately, the food will possibly cause a clog and the liquid will be forced to push the stomach out or make you throw up. That is the rules for the nonadjustable band. I can't imagine that it wouldn't be the exact same thing for all of the other surgeries that result in a pouch. Paula

I had RNY and yes, sometimes I do feel very full on liquids, especially if I drink very quickly. It seems to be just like food though. Some days I feel very full after eating a couple of ounces of cheese, some days it doesn't feel as if I've eaten anything at all.

I had the RNY and yes if you drink water fast it will fill you up. Also it does pass through your stomach but like anything else it takes time to go through..Think of it as a funnel..when you fill it up it overflows right? Well the same thing with our new stomach..This is why they told us to sip sip sip so it doesnt overflow and cause stomach distress. Hope this helps..
