Question:
Any one post op now have low blood pressure that causes you to pass out?
I am 1 year 9 months post op. Since my surgery I have had episodes of light headedness. Recently this weekend I spend the day in the emergency room due to passing out 4 times in 1 hour. I black out and hit the floor. I come to when I hit the floor. I went to the doctor again today. He said that it is from low blood pressure and that post op our bodies are more sensitive to electrolyte levels. He said this combined with a bad case of the flu caused this. Anyone else dealing with low blood pressure. At the hospital it was 90/50. Today was 102/60. I am 6 feet tall and still weigh about 210 pounds. The doctor said I have the blood pressure for someone 5 foot 2 and 100 pounds. — tulagirl (posted on April 27, 2004)

I did have an episode around my 8th month. After that I made sure I got in
salt and lots of fluids and it hasn't happened again. Salt will raise the
BP

Hi Tammi,
This hasn't happened to me personally but I have heard of several people
that it has happened to and the answer seemed to be a carefully controlled
salt intake, adding small amounts of salt to your food. I would speak to my
doctor about it and see what his thoughts were before trying it. Just a
suggestion. Good luck and I hope you feel much better soon!

Drink a cup of beef bouillion every day. This helped me greatly. I can't
stand the chicken flavor, but the beef is really good! I use the bouillion
cubes(not granules) and dissolve in the hottest tap water. That way, I can
drink it right away and not have to wait until it cools. Good luck! Shelley

I heard both salt and caffine will raise it. I'm doing both and it has'nt
helped. Mine has been as low as 80/40. I have'nt passed out yet but I've
come VERY close. By the way, I'll be three years post op on May 8th. It
is'nt going away with time.

I pass out from low bp too. I stopped one of my heart meds and that has
helped. Peanut butter and crackers seems to help.
My bp can get as low as 79 over 39.

I had major low blood pressure problems after my PS for the LBL. They sort
of freaked when it go to 60/50. Eventually it did get up into the 80's and
low 90's but even when I left the hospital it was like 90/40. I normally
run around 100/low 60's since WLS. However, I do have problems with
lightheadedness and dizzyness when I stand up quickly. This seems to be an
issue more so when I am working out than just getting up quickly from
sitting at my desk.

I still get that feeling now and then. Really bad early on it can still
occur today if I dont get all my liquids in, dont eat enough. I had a tough
time while stocking shelves at the grocery store job during its grand
opening. I worked over 6 hours straight without a break, or anything, at
top speed the fastest and hardest I have ever worked in my entire life. I
became a klutz and had to take a break. I ended up working thru lunch and
went home a half hour early. Wow was that a busy day. Could of NEVER done
that as a MO.

I get lightheaded when I stand up too quickly. When this happens, I just
stop in my tracks and wait it out until the lightheadedness goes away.
BTW, my blood pressure is pretty much constantly 90/60 and I'm 5'2 and 125
pounds.

It happened to me within the first year. I'm 2 years post op and don't
have that problem anymore.

Yes, I've had the same problem. My BP was actually low even before WLS.
It was really bad when with my post-op pregnancy usually checking in at
90/60. It happens to me from time to time, but is sometimes attributed
more to my sugar/insulin levels. So I have to always watch that I have
some hard candy or something to suck on if I get the light-headedness and
some water.
