Question:
This isn't a question, just something GREAT I found for protien
I am 2 weeks post op today (and lost 30 lbs!), but it has been super hard to get my protien in. But, I found an awesome way to do it, and I thought it might help some suffering post ops. I mix my protien supplement w/ milk, which adds 8g of protien, and I mix it with 1/3c of powdered milk, adding another 8g of protien. So with my supplement it comes out to about 46g of protien for an 8oz shake. This was so heavy I couldn't get it all down...SO! If you mix it with a little fruit (too much gives a bit too much fiber and sugar), I use 2 frozen strawberries. You can freeze it (in a popcicle mold) and it goes down slowly, and 2 of them a day is 90+ grams of protien. All this with no upset stomach. Oh, and another plus? It really helps the taste. Just thought it might help. cheers. Mandy-Shea — mandy-shea B. (posted on March 3, 2004)

Just remember that we only absorb 30-32g protein at a time. So making a
shake with that many grams of protein is a waste.

I second what Delores said. Anything over 30 is a waste. :( though your way
does sound really good.

Sounds yummy! I also recommend mixing protein powder in SF pudding.
Tastes like cake mix. Oh and ditto on the 30 grams thing.

Hi Mandy, We can only absorb 30 grams of protein every 3 hours. While your
shake is great, Anything over 30 grams isn't absorbed and are just
calories. So You should make your shakes smaller and drink them more
frequently throughout the day. Keisha 3/12/03 - 316/184/160

I've also read somewhere that after you mix protein drinks you need to
drink them within and hour or they start to break down. I'll have to find
at least one of the links again and come back and post it for you. Good
luck.

Hi Mandy! Everything everyone else has said is true but if you made your
shake with just 1/2 recipe it would be great! One other fly to add to the
ointment - you can't boil or freeze protein without jeopardizing the
integrity/quality of the protein. Warming and cooling is fine - just no
boiling or freezing. With everyone's help we'll get this figured out,
won't we?

Boiling/freezing protein..........I've been told that you can heat or
freeze soy based protein and although you can't heat whey protein, it's
perfectly okay to freeze it. What a journey...........I don't ever know
what is true and what isn't! Guess we try to sort out all the info and do
the best we can with it.

i do make sure i drink them the same day, b/c i was worried about the
breaking down process. But thanks for telling me about the 30g thing. Now
my shakes won't be as thick *grins* PLUS I'm going to tell my brother who
is a weight lifter. I'm not drinking much more than 30g, but they are, and
it's counteractive and could hurt him and his other weight lifting buddies.
Thank y'all so much for the info!

Mandy, just one more tidbit........it seems to be true that normal
absorption of protein is 30g or less at a time, however it is not true for
those who do a lot of weight training. If they are SERIOUS bodybuilders,
it seems they are capable of absorbing more than 30g at a time so they may
be okay with a higher intake. At any rate, your protein concoction sounds
delicious and congratulations on the 30 pounds!
