Question:
If you get a stomach virus how much do you vomit?
I hear alot about people vomiting after surgery for a number of reasons. My question is how much do you vomit if you get a stomach virus or something? Do you have dry heaves after the first time or what. I mean I am one of those terrible people to goes on forever until I am sore. Does this mean when I have such a small stomach I will have more dry heaves than actual production? Does this make since? I hope so. — Vitabella (posted on December 26, 2003)

Not sure if this is what you want to hear...or how it happens for everyone
but, a few weeks ago I ate and about 15 minutes later felt like I needed to
throw up and proceeded to dry heave for about an hour. I thought maybe
something was stuck so I tried drinking a bunch of water to make myself
throw up...which only caused me to be in pain. Then, for the next 4-5 days
I had to 'run' to the bathroom 4-8 times a day. It was not real fun. Of
course, now that I think about it...maybe it wasn't so bad compared to all
of the barfing I used to do!

I got food poisioning last summer and I was quite sick for a day or two. I
also used to wonder if you would throw up any amount after RNY. Now I know
you can. I threw up about the same as I did before my surgery. I did get
dry heaves but I tended to do that before too. 1/22/02 210-103

I've had the "stomach bug" twice since my RNY 13+ months ago. I
had dry heaves and laid on the bathroon floor, wishing I had something to
throw up to make me feel better. I got a little bit of what I guess was
intestinal juices, but mostly just my body trying to throw up what clearly
wasn't there. Hope this helps. 315/155
