Question:
Are there any stats on reaccurring adhesions or small bowel obstructures?
I'd like to know how many times does or can small bowel obstruction reaccur- I had surgery (lap rny)dec. 6th,2002, I had emergency surgery on Oct 4th, for my first obstruction/hernia -thought everything would be fine. But,am in hospital right now-with 2nd obstruction, only this time he had to open me up and repair things, I had problems waking up,ended up in ICU for 3 days on life support. I'm scared this is going to happen again.....any one with any knowledge of this subject,I'd like to hear from. Tammy — Tammy T. (posted on December 4, 2003)

According to the research I've read, a bowel obstruction can happen at any
time after surgery/multiple times after surgery and not just early postop.
It can happen 1 year or 10 years post-op. It is one of the chances we take
when we have this surgery.
If you believe in prayer, I would suggest it. It really does help.

I am a year out from my gastric bypass & this past October I ended up
in the Er & then off to emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. I
almost dies & do not remember the first week I spent in the hospital.
After 2 weeks I finally got to go home.. It was horrible & I hope it
mnever happens again. My only symptom in the beginning was throwing up
constantly .. after that weakness.
