Question:
Where can I find info on the theory that we tend to get stuck on weights we were at
for a while prior to surgery after our WLS? Is there any info out there on that, or is that just what many of us have observed? I am 7 and 1/2 months post-op, down 130, and I am losing very slowly right now! (Even more than what I would consider "normal" for this far out.) So I thought I would investigate the "set-point" theory I have heard about where our bodies kind of "stick" for a while during weight loss at places where we were for a while pre-op. Anyone have any information or know where I can go? Thanks! — raye (posted on September 20, 2003)

I wish I could point you to a great website or article about this...but
alas I cannot. I do want to add that my doctor did tell me this same
theory and I believe it 100%. When I took fen-phen I stuck and stayed at
153lbs. No matter how little food I ate or how much I exercised that darn
scale would not move. That was also a weight that I stayed at forever when
moving up the scale many, many years ago. So now after weight loss surgery
what number did I stick to for over a month? Yep, you guessed it. Then
without any rhyme or reason one day the scale began to move again. I am
now staying between 139 and 142 lbs. but I think this is where I will be
ending up. Only fat left to lose would be through plastic surgery. I hope
you find some good facts to back up the theory and would love to get the
information myself. Good luck.

I also don't know if there is any scientific evidence for plateauing at a
weight we once held for awhile. I do know that that is NOT true with me.
I blew by a weight I had been at for a long time, and am now stuck at a
weight I never weighed (except for maybe a day here and there on the way up
or down the scales on previous diets.
