Question:
I had my upper GI and it said:
"Mild thickening of the gastric folds with may reflect underlying gastritis" "Several episodes of gastric esophageal reflux". The gastrologist wants me to have an Endoscopy to make sure these gastric folds won't interfere with the healing process of WLS? He said you don't want to be opened up for WLS and end up waking up without the procedure being performed. I'm confused, is this serious, has anyone gone thru this and what was your outcome? I'm terrified of this scope to! Thanks! — SJWendy (posted on September 19, 2003)

Wendy, please follow doctors orders, before my surgery, my doctor didn't
ordered me an endoscopy, and the day of the surgery, he opened me up,
discovered a lot of scar tissue, and close me up, before performing the
WLS, so now I have a lot of bills,a big scar and nothing to go for, I
wouldn't like anybody to go trough what I went trough, I was very depressed
for a long time, and I have to go back to diet. I think he was at fault,
because that simple exam could it prevented everything...If you want to
write me feel free to do it.....Good luck.

When they did my upper gi they found a lump that had to be biopsied before
they would go thru with the wls. I had the scope done on 9-16-03 & it
was really a piece of cake. They gave me some demeral & after a few
seconds of gaging at the begining I did not feel a thing & it took less
than 10 min. Hope everything goes well for you.

Had a scope this morning, actually. No big deal. Nice little nap, then
blam, I'm in the caar on the way home. The only part that hurts at all is
the IV. Having been an ulcer victim since I was young, I've had a number
of them. Nothing to fear but the point of the needle & then not for
long. The gentle drug they use leaves you groggy but not feeling ill or
anything.
