Question:
What kinds of fruits are good for u, and not have alot of carbs?
Hello, im 6 months post-op on monday 8/25/03 and im down 70lbs, and im proud of myself. I went on this high protein low low carb kick for the past week and it has been great 5lbs in 1 week. i want to add something more, like fruits, but they are high in carbs. My question, are fruit carbs good or bad? i love watermelon, strawberrie, melon, cherries, and i know the sugars are high, but are fruits good for us, on a high protein low low carb kick.260/190/160 — sexysag37 (posted on August 21, 2003)

Fruit IS good for us, however you should try to choose the ones that are
lower in sugar/higher in fiber. Blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe,
avocados (yup, they're a fruit), lemons, limes, grapefruits (sprinkles a
smidge of splenda on it if you like), kiwi, peaches, plums, blackberries,
and raspberries - all have 10 or less active carbs (carbs minus fiber).
Lots of choices!

Ruth's suggestions are right on. But, be careful of avocado: it's high in
fat and cause you to dump. Also be careful with watermelon. Most people
think it's mostly water, but it also has a lot of sugar in it, so eat it in
moderation. Fruit is generally good for you, as are veggies (be more
sparing with root veggies, but eat ones that grow above the ground).
Congratulations on your weight loss, and your re-commitment to a diet
balanced to protein and away from carbohydrates!

I have one thing to add. If you eat the citrus fruits be sure to watch out
for the membranes on the fruit. Some people have eaten those and gotten
their pouches plugged. Some people have no problem but I try to get it all
off. The same goes for tomatoe skins.
