Question:
Please advice my on my vitamin intake
I am 4 1/2 months post op. I have been a bad girl as far as taking my vitamins. I only vitamin i have taken is my multi. I know I am suppose to take B12, Is it ok to take b12 sublinigal once a week? I am suppose to have 1200 -1500 mg of calcium daily, what is the difference between taking calcium 600 D and Cal mag. cal mag has 500 mg per tablet and calcium 600 has 600. Will it benefit my to take calcium with mag if so what is the benefit of mag. I am suppose to also take 2 tabs of iron daily . What is the best iron pill to take? Should you get a prescription for the iron pills? I am pleased to share that I have lost 72lbs so far and do feel great. — Sharon V. (posted on June 24, 2003)

he calcium form is citrate. USUALLY the 600's are carbonate, but not
always. Caltrate 600 is carbonate form--not what you want. Citracal would
be a citrate brand name. Personally, I think carbonyl iron (form) is a good
start in iron. Iron is always taken with a vit C, an hour apart from any
other vites, minerals, or meds. And not taken with dairy or caffeine

Mag is magnesium and is necessary to help you absorb the calcium. Your
best source of calcium would be calcium citrate with mag and D. D is also
necessary to absorb your calcium. Congrats on your weight loss and I'm
happy to see that you're concerned about getting your vitamins. It is
very important for us in the long run. As for iron and B-12, I get a
prescription from my surgeon for Trinsicon, which includes both. It also
contains intrinsic factor that we don't have anymore to help us absorb
both.

Every surgeon is a little different, so it's best to ask your surgeon.
Mine says 2 multivitamins with iron daily, 1 500 mg Vitamin B12, 1 Vitamin
A&D, and a minimum of 1500 mg of Calcium Citrate.
