Question:
Did anyone have Lap RNY through Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO?
I am totally upset. I am considering having surgery and had done my endoscopy and stomach ultrasound, as well as nutritional evaluation. My paperwork has been submitted to Health Net and on Monday I found out that I am going to lose my job. Our company got bought out and some of us are going to be permanent employees of a new company. They'll offer insurance for a while, but I can't get Health Net Cobra, since my old company will cease to exist. I was in tears all morning on Monday. — love to shop (posted on June 4, 2003)

If BCBS is going to be your 'new' insurance.. don't worry. BCBS DOES pay
for WLS and pays for LAP; in fact; if your paperwork has already been
submitted to your old insurance, let it run its course; if it gets approved
before BCBS kicks in you can 'use that paper work' to submit to BCBS -
propabbly be easier to get BCBS approval if another insurance company has
already approved you before... Kinda hard to say 'no' with a 'good' reason'
when another as approved you.. BUT BCBS is a good company and does pay for
it.

MY WLS WAS COVERED THROUGH BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD PPO. I WAS APPROVED
AFTER LESS THAN A WEEK! MY BMI WAS 42.9 AND I HAD A FEW CO MORBITIES SUCH
AS SLEEP APENEA (SP)AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY
PROBLEMS. GOOD LUCK!

BCBS PPO was great for me, I was approved the same day my request was faxed
over. They covered it 100% accept my $200 deductable.

I know that the BC's are different from state to state and I think that in
some states like California BS is different than BC but most BC's are
relatively easy to deal with (though if you go to the library you might
find that people in other states have had difficulties with them). I have
Blue Cross California POS (PPO and HMO). I used the PPO for my LAP RNY (my
portion was about 4k but the deductible depends on the employer). I was
approved within 48 hours. No hassles, no problems. I had a car accident 8
weeks after my surgery and BC CA covered everything and continue to be
really supportive and helpful. I can use both HMO and PPO for the car
accident bills (since I was taken to the trauma center that is the same
hospital as my HMO) and they just automatically bill the correct side of
the insurance. If I get a bill because I never gave the provider my
insurance information (like the ambulance) and I start to hear from the
provider, I just call BC and say "oops" and they pursue it to
pick it up. Their customer service is very good. Most of my providers are
thrilled when I tell them I have Blue Cross. I'm moving out of state in
the fall and I really will miss BlueCrossCA PPO. I can't say enough good
things about them.

I did. Don't cry. I'e got BCBC of Georgia-PPO, Standard Option (formerly
High Option) Federal Plan. They took care of EVERYTHING in mt case...I paid
$300 for the hospital bill and $1,500 to the hospital because my surgeon(s)
were out of network. If I can be of further assistance, please don't
hesitate to email me. LAP RNY 9/3/02 265/158/115-126

I have Blue Cross PPO and have a BMI of 40. I was approved for LAP RNY in
less than 3 days. I also had no life threatening co-morbs. Good luck....
Blue Cross/Blue Shield have an excellent track record.

Read my profile under Sharon Brittain and Sharon M. Brittain. The first one
has my letter for BCBS in it, and lots of info on BCBS. Hope this helps.
Email me, if you want to...
