Question:
Anyone dealt with changing to BC/BS PPO during open enrollment and a State employee?
I have recently changed from Coventry of DE to BC/BS PPO of DE during open enrollment in order to have surgery (I am a state employee in DE). I now have heard something about maybe having to wait six months because of pre-existing condition. I read on the site something about it being waved because the change is during open enrollment. Has anyone dealt with this situation? Any feedback would be appreciated. TKS Barb — Sweet N. (posted on June 1, 2003)

I have Blue Cross PPO through the State of California. We have do not have
a pre-exsisting clause with our plans so check with your employer. They
should be able to give you an answer. Anyway the insurance was a breeze I
got approval in 2 days. Good luck to you. Wendi

Hi Barb,
I am also a state of DE employee who is getting ready to have Lap-RNY on
July 1, with Dr Wynn in Newark. I think the pre-existing condition wait is
only if you have not had insurance coverage before. I have two co-workers
who switched from Coverntry to BC/BS PPO last year to have the surgery they
did not have any problems. They had appointments scheduled for the first
week in July and had surgery by the middle of November with Dr Miller in
Seaford. They have not had any problmes as far as BC/BS but I have had a
problem with getting BC/BS to pay for some of the pre-surgical clearance
testing with the group Dr. Wynn's office uses. BC/BS said they would pay
for it before I had the appointments and then denied it after. If you want
to email me I am at [email protected]
