This would be an excellent time to learn how to cook! You are motivated,
and you need to take good care of yourself. You have the advantage, because
you can start from the beginning and cook healthy foods right from the
start! Cooking isn't all that difficult. You just need to keep it very
simple at first, and then as you get more comfortable, your cooking can get
more complex. If you have the time, head over to the library with a
notebook. Browse through the recipe books, and also check the magazines.
Find a couple of simple recipes, write them down, go to the store, and go
home to give it a go! You'll do GREAT!!! YOU CAN DO IT!! Hey, even better,
WALK to the library, if you can!

My suggestion since you don't cook would be buy a GEorge Foreman grill you
can get them at walmart the small one for around $20. That is how I fix 90%
of my meats. Just buy some skinless/boneless breast put a little seasoning
whatever you like I love lemon pepper and put in on the grill depending if
it is frozen in 10 minutes you have a hot high protein dinner. You can also
cook the salmon burgers and things on it. This way all the grease is gone
most of it anyhow. I used this before surgery when I started dieting the
last time and now it is a life savor. Good luck. Alicia

Use the fear that you have to get up off your booty and take a cooking
class, go see a friend that likes to cook and take some lessons from
him/her, get into a gym, a support group, some personal counseling, the
library to get books on cooking, positive thinking etc. The surgery
doesn't do a darn thing if you don't help it by changing EVERYTHING. This
ain't easy. Make a committment today to change your life for the better.
Think in a different way. Change the "I'm scared I'll never get
there" to, "I will get there, it's just a matter of when..."
good luck!

Hi there and good luck in your journey. I am not going to lecture you on
the benefits of working out, but once you get started its an amazing
difference. I had wls 5 mos ago and have lost 88 lbs and Im in a size 12.
I also was barely able to walk - now I run, do 30 min on the stairstepper
and teach a water aerobics class. You can do this! Also - I hate to cook
too - I use a slow cooker/crockpot alot. Just put a roast in it with some
carrots/celery and let it cook all day - can also do the same with ribs and
lots of other food. Good Luck!!

I like this web site. They are pretty good and give you all the nutritional
information also. If the recipe calls f0r 4 servings you may have 6-8 You
can always put them in baggies and freeze the rest. If you join (free)you
can go to the healthy eating section and look at the diabetic section. It
is low fat low sugar and balanced menus. It's a pretty good start and they
give you a weekly shopping list. Give it a try. Good Lux

Demika, bottom line, if you don't do something to ensure your success, then
you will not get to your goal. Period. Snacking all day and not
exercising will not get you to your goal. There are those who weighed as
much as you and have gotten to their goals, but they had to work for it.
That means following pouch rules-eating protein first, no drinking with or
right after meals, tons of water during the day, lo carb and lo or no
sugar-watch the snacking, and EXERCISE. If your serious, you will join a
gym or just say what I do, "JUST DO IT". Thats Nike's slogan,
and when I am tired or don't feel motivated to exercise, I don't let
excuses get in the way, I just say to myself, "just do it" and I
do. Bottom line, no one can motivate you to eat right and to exercise, you
have to do it and if you want to succeed you will-if not, you will fail.
As for cooking, learn. There is nothing that you cannot do if you set your
mind to it. Good luck. You can do this.

I started out at 388, 5'5". Im just over 6 months out and have lost
101 pounds... I reached a goal (to lose 100 but wanted to do it before the
6 month anniversary...I was close at 94 though). Now I have set a new goal
to lose more by my one year. The point is to set goals that arent so
overwhelming...but are reasonable and challenging. I dont know if people
our size can get down to 135-150. My surgeon says I will be a complete
success if I hit 220. My ultimate goal is 180... doable and very
challenging at the same time. Set attainable goals and reevaluate them
from time to time. Dont overwhelm yourself to the point that you get
depressed or worry overmuch. That will set you up for major
disappointment. Get yourself a good cookbook..Victoria Bowen has a
wonderful website as do many other members that gives tons of recipes. It
is easy to cook 3 days a weeks....brown several servings of gr. round at a
time freeze the unused for later in the week for chili or tacos. You can
do that with pretty much anything. Make large portions..or several..like
chicken breast at a time then freeze for later use. Buy frozen bags of
veggies...just take out the amount you want for a meal and microwave. You
will get the hang of it, it takes a while. Good luck!!

Since you've gotten some good answers on getting to goal, I thought I'd
offer some food ideas for a non-cooking type person. Even my non-cooking
hubby could handle this :>) Cheese - glorious cheese. I eat 4 1-ounce
sticks of moz cheese every morning. Just starts my day off well and I've
rarely gotten sick of it in 9 months. Fire up the grill and grill a bunch
of meat at once (ok a bunch for us isn't really THAT much but...lol) and
zippy it in the fridge for consumption over a couple of days (or freeze for
micro heating later). I do a steak, 2 chicken breasts marinated in Italian
dressing, a pork chop (marinated in sugar-free bbq sauce) and a couple of
chicken legs on the grill at once. The steak I chop up into a smallish
green salad with chopped tomatoes, cukes, sunflower seeds, shredded cheese,
onion and ranch dressing. If you make the salad and dress it and let it
sit for a few hours in the fridge it helps break down the meat and veggies
so they are easy to chew and digest. The chicken breast I either do in a
salad like the steak OR I chop it up in a pot with some canned stock,
carrots, celery and onion for a simple soup. The chicken legs I eat cold
for lunch along with some cottage cheese. The pork chops I usually chop
into a dish with some pineapple chunks, diced green peppers and a bit of
the sugar-free bbq sauce - heat and eat. Anyway hope these help some!
