Question:
Are there ways to avoid getting a hernia?

I only have one concern post-op, are there ways to avoid getting a hernia? Any special excercises or anything? Just curious so I can try to avoid one.    — tpalmer (posted on March 18, 2003)

Choiose LAP surgery, with LAP the incisional hernia risk is near zero. FOLLOW YOUR DOCS ORDERS, on lifting and such post opand hope for the best. Some folks dont mind a hernia it helps get them a TT.

I had open RNY and followed all of the lifting restrictions. Didn't matter, I got a hernia at 7 months out.
