Question:
Has anyone who has had gastric bypass had to have part of their stomach removed?
In 1978 I had gastic stapling. I am approved for a gastic bypass now. I wanted to find out if anyone has had to have part of their stomach removed while having the bypass? If so what were any complications and recovery time. I know this is very rare but I would like to talk to someone who has had to face this. — Toni W. (posted on March 18, 2003)

I had subtotal gastrectomy (removal of left over) with my revision 3 yrs
ago. I had had a 30 yr history of ulcer, and did not want the potential of
a sealed ulcer ticking like a time bomb in there. I had no complications
or issues. My revision was utterly uneventful, but then I was in great
health when I went into it.

I am also a pre-op and my doctor is having me tested for an ulcer before
surgery, so if neccessary he can remove the portion of my stomach that is
not used. He said that they would do it as a precaution to avoid possible
problems down the road. Good luck.
