Question:
What do I say to PCP that I've never meet before?
I have an appointment with my PCP and I have never meet them before. It milatary so they change doctor at times. Well the doctor I was used to is gone and I'm nervous. I have fibromyalgia and bad knees, so it's hard for me to get around. That is my reason for the surgery. My bloodpresure is broadline high. I maybe broadline diabitic. Do I ask for all these test or that? Please help me!!! Jody — Jody V. (posted on March 13, 2003)

I went to my PCP for the first time to get a letter of clearance for
surgery that my surgeon required. When I saw the Dr. I told him what I
needed and why I needed it. He went through my entire medical history as
best I could remember it, then ordered copies of all the tests that my
surgeon had already done. After he reviewed the results of the tests, he
sent over my letter.
Just let this Dr know that you want this surgery and why. If there are any
tests that he needs he should order them. Make sure you tell him
everything about your medical history though. Since he doesn't know you,
you don't want to leave out something important that could affect your
surgery or recovery.
Good Luck!

Hi Jody, I found myself in the same situation. My former PCP had stopped
accepting my insurance and I hadn't been to a doctor in a long time. I
discussed my desire for WLS with the new PCP. The need was obvious due to
my weight, and other co-morbs that we discussed. I don't think your new
doc should give you any trouble once he/she verifies your other health
issues. Good Luck! P.S. My new doctor was kind and supportive:o)
