Question:
Help! My surgeon doesn't accept BCBS PPO!
Does anyone know of any (good, experienced!) Florida surgeons that accept BCBS PPO (State of Florida Employee insurance)? I was hoping to have US Bariatrics do my surgery, but they require the whole amount up front ($10,000) before they will even submit to my insurance... — Tim W. (posted on February 27, 2003)

Hi there...if you have a PPO you should be able to go out of network.
That's the plus of a PPO vs. an HMO. You can use a doctor not in the plan
and still receive benefits. That's what a PPO is. You will not recieve as
high of a level of benefits and yes, will have to pay more out of pocket.
But will still receive a good deal of coverage. Look into this with your
HR department or directly with the insurance company. Good Luck!

There are lots of great docs in Florida...Dr. Marema is Great, however I
know he makes you pay up front now and does not take BCBSFL. He charges
around $9,000 to $11,000 and the insurance only pays about $1,600.00 for
the surgery. He with PPO you can use who ever you want but you will have
to pay the difference. How far are you willing to go? There is a really
good surgeron in Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Gainesville (my surgeron). I am
sure there are more, but these are the ones I know of. Email and let me
know.
