Question:
Does everyone get tested for H Pylori?

I had tested positive to H Pylori about 8 years ago and was put one the treatment, however, I am allergic to three classes of antibiotics used in the treatment so was unable to continue. I was then scoped to check my stomach and no damage or H pylori was found. My pre-op is 2/4/03 and my surgery date is 2/10/03, I am worried that they will postpone if they find this bacteria. I have no way to be treated for it. My surgeon's office hasn't mentioned it as one of the test so I am wondering if all doctors test for it or if some of you did not?    — Janet S. Mine didn't test for it - I asked him outright as I wanted to know the protocol for treatment if it was "found"...he said its very rare and doesn't test. Good luck!

I had to have an H-pylori test. My surgeon requires it to be sure you don't have that bacteria in your stomach. There are some newer antibiotics out now that weren't available 8 years ago. So IF you were positive you may be able to tolerate one of the new ones. I haven't heard of anyone testing positive so far. Good luck. Carol
