Question:
AM I taking enough of the right things???
Hi, I asked a suppliment question last week and didn't tell ya'll WHAT I took which didn't help me get answers. So here's what I take every day: Trinsicon (Rx) twice a day < this is intrinsic factor and Iron>, Flinstone's twice a day, Citrical once a day (huge pills!),Biotin 800mg once a day, Sublingual B12 5000 mcg twice a WEEK ( my levels were WAY high taking it daily), Vit B-1 250 mg once a day, Vit E 200 IU once a day, Beta Carotene 25,000 IU once a day, Vit B-6 50 mg once a day, Ester C 500 mg once a day and last but not least my Prozac <he he> had to throw that in. OK, am I taking the right things and am I taking enough??? Thanks Ya'll — Gina D. (posted on December 30, 2002)

Hi there I am 6 months out and last time I weighed I was down 150 pounds
maybe a little more I really don't remember, but anyway I am curious to
know why your taking so much I am only taking 2 chewables with iron a day 3
calcium chews and 1 b-12 sublingual. That is all I have taken since surgery
and I have had my labs done twice and am having no problems. Are you taking
so much because you want to or because that is what you were told to take?
Your question makes me wonder if I am not taking all I should be taking

Hey, why are you taking so much? If your doc didn't prescribe all that
stuff, you are taking way to much. no wonder your levels are high.

That sounds like alot to me but only your doc can tell you best what you
need. Is that what they recommended? I only take 2 Flinstone
completes/day, 2 calcium citrate (which = 30% of daily req), and
occasionally I'll have a viactiv here and there. I usually have those as
my form of a candy treat since it's calcium carbonate and not citrate. I
did take Biotin occasionally a few months back for hair loss but I really
didn't notice any difference so I stopped. My doc does bloodwork at 1 year
out so things may change. But right now, I don't have any symptons of
needing anything more.

Gina, are you a proximal or distal? Those who are proximal can take less
than distal can as distals have more malabsorbtion of the
vitamins/nutrients from the foods we eat. I agree with the others that it
sounds like you take alot, did your doctor place you on all that? Like the
others I take 2 Flintstones chewables (any good multivitamin with iron will
do), 1500 mg of calcium CITRATE (thats 3-500 mg capsules a day-you should
not be taking all your calcium at once, only 700 or so absorbs at 1 time),
and a monthly B-12 shot. So far, labs are fine. I don't think the others
will hurt you but why take more than you need?

Hi, I am the postee.....
No my doc only said to take the calcium, trinsicon and flinstones. I added
the others after reading what so many others take. AND I was worried about
not getting enough protein as I HATE all the drinks so far. The I went
reading about what vitamin/mineral does what and thought why not. I feel I
am taking WAY to much myself but I am trying to firm up this skin, regain
the hair I am losing by the buckets and stay healthy as I don't think I get
enough from the little amount I eat. As far as proximal/distal, I dont'
know what I had. I will ask next time I go. Citrical Is citrate, just a
huge pill. SO Ya'll think I take too much. GOOD, I am full just from the
darn pills!!!! Thanks!!

Hmmmm, more calcium. Lots more. If you're taking one, that's 315mg only.
You need 1500-2000mg. Whether you're prox or distal doesn't matter for
calcium. Taking your C when you take your Trinsicon? The E is oil or dry?
400IU would be better (dry). Some studies recommend 800IU per day--for
normies! Heart health. Since that's one of the elements you're
malabsorbing, you have a little latitude with it. I don't see a multi
vite in there--did I miss it? It covers the rest of the B's, some misc
minerals, etc.
