Question:
This is not a question but a statement.
I had my surgey in June of 2002 and have not regreted it for one minute but I wish I would have had a bone density test prior to having the surgery. I have never been big on milk or take calcium and now I wish I had. I just had a bone density test and I am very thin on bone mass. Now I have to take a Rx and increase my calcium to 2400 mg of calcium and 400 units of vit D. Daily....... So if you have any douths about your bone density I would suggest having a test done before the WLS. (if already had surgery have it also tested for future referance) If I would have known I might have taken care of the problem before surgery. Cause I have been in alot of pain (bone acking in hips and back, wrists) since surgery. Just a thought and suggestion. Take care. — sandy W. (posted on December 28, 2002)

unfortunately the machine that does the bone density or the DEXA test only
holds up tp 250 lbs. I went for one and they refused me. Said their
equipment was too expensive to break. If you were over 250 they couldn't
have done it anyway.

Thanks for the information. I am only 4 months post op, but have had back,
knee and hip discomfort since soon after surgery. I will ask my PCP for
one this coming week, then I will have something to compare to in the
future. Again thanks.

I'm sorry you're experiencing so much pain, I pray that it gets better for
you. I tried to have a bone density test done b/c of back pain and I was
told that I was too big for the table(250 was the limit). But I've always
heard that obese women have a lower incident of ostoporosis. I did get a
blood test and was able to see my calcium level for others that can't fit
on the table.
