Question:
Has anyone with BC/BS of MI had wls?
Hi there :o) I have BC/BS of MI (Traditional) through General Motors and I'm getting very worried that I would be approved because my BMI is only 41? I have hypertension, gerd, acute back problems, asthma, stress incontinence. Has anyone with the bmi close to mine been approved for surgery???? Please let me know your experience? — meltedbuttr (posted on November 23, 2002)

I have BC/BS traditional through Sparrow Hospital. I have a higher BMI
than yours but the Bariatric Treatment Center I went to in Ypsilanti had an
in house approval system. The sheet they gave me for approval included
these five things. 1. Age between 18 and 60 2. Weight must be more than
100 lbs over weight 3. Comorbidities and risk factors: you must have
obesity-related health problems and/or have health risk factors related to
your morbid obesity (who doesn't have this, isn't being obese it's own risk
factor?) 4. Psychological Evaluation: a psychologist need to verify you
understand the effects of the proceedure and that you are mentally able to
follow the aftercare. 5. Documentation by a doctor or failed weight
reduction attempts. (this is open to interpretation) Basically as long as
you are at least 100 lbs overweight you should qualify. Let me know if
you'd like the facilities phone number. GL

MI. through Liv-Lite with Dr. Schuhknecht and Dr. Woods. It was approved
and my BMI is between 42 and 43. Good luck!
