Question:
Experienced hot flashes almost hourly and head ache daily?

I am 4 months out, open transected, down 75 pounds and feeling diffrent. I am experiencing hot flashes almost hourly. I don't have to eat or drink anything so it's not dumping, and having head ache for 1.5 weeks. It eases up but never leaves. Could this be a hormonal thing since the weight loss? Any sugestions.?????? I am eating and drinking fine. Thanks in advance.    — sandy W. (posted on October 20, 2002)

Hi Sandy...I haven't personally experienced what your going thru, but after reading your profile and seeing you're a grandmother (congrats on that by the way!), I would suggest that your hormones are probably out of wack. One due to weight loss which released hormones that have been trapped in fat and two due to your age (am guessing around 40ish?). I would certainly see my PCP and have your hormone levels tested. If they are off a little pill could relieve much of this. Good luck!

It definitely sounds hormonal. One thing with this surgery, as we lose tons of weight, our hormones are totally out of wack for a while. If you haven't gone thru menopause yet, it certainly sounds like your there now. Go see your GYN - simple blood tests will tell you where your at and there are medications that can control the flashes and other symptoms. Just remember to tell them that you cannot take time release pills.

Same thing happened to me. I called my surgeon on it. Hormones are stored in your fat cells. when you lose weight these are released causing the hot flashes. Once the weight starts to slow so does the heat.
