Question:
UTI & Surgery
I have had a uninary tract infection for 2 months now. I have never had a problem like this before. I am afraid I won't be able to have surgery because of it. Has anyone had surgery when they had a UTI? Has anyone else ever had a cronic UTI? Thank you for your help. — obsessivekompulsive (posted on August 31, 2002)

I don't know how the UTI will affect your surgery, but there is no reason
that you should have a UTI for 2 months. I get them all the time and mine
are very hard to kill, but there are some very strong antibiotics that will
do the trick in no more than 10 days. What have you been taking? If your
doctor is not treating this seriously, please see a urologist. An
untreated UTI can have a huge impact on your kidneys. If it gets better,
only to return when you go off the antibiotics, you should be taking a
small dose of antibiotics every day for as long as a month or two. If
nothing will treat it, you may have some other problem that is causing it.
I get about 4 UTI's a year, so I consider myself a bit of an expert. LOL.
But, I've never heard of one like this. Please write and let me know how
you are doing and what your course of treatment has been. I'm worried
about you.
