Question:
AETNA REQUIRES 700 GMS OF BREAST TISSUE REMOVED, I'LL BE FLAT AS A BOARD!

I have met all the criteria for a breast reduction, and am scheduled to have it along with my TT on the 16th of Sept. But Aetna is requiring the surgeon to remove at least 700 gms of tissue from each breast! I won't have any when she's done, so I probably will not have the surgery. Anyone know of any way around this? I am 5'3.5" and 200 pounds.    — beth N. (posted on August 29, 2002)

OK, lets think this one out some. There is 2.2 pounds per kilogram/ 1000 grams in a kilo. Soooo that is about 1.5 pounds to each breast if my math is correct. Breast tissue is pretty dense- therefore heavy. Do you not have that much breast tissue to lose?? IF not, do you really need a breast reduction?? Ask your plastic surgeon for options. I did check out Aetna's policy, and your surgeon's information is correct based on the coverage policy (check out www.aetna.com/cpb/data/CPBA0017.html). Good Luck.

I plan to have my sagging skin removed and also have implants. Maybe there is enough sagging breast that he could remove that much... but add the implants and WAA LAA.... Perky Boobs =)... That seems to be my plan anyway.. I will have to only pay for the implants... Good Luck and God Bless

just FYI. .. . .I am still pre-op but I did have a breast reduction/lift in February and he removed 900 g from my right breast and 870 from my left. I was a large D cup before and now I am a large C. Boobs are heavy!!!! Wont make that much of a difference and I feel so much better now. Hope it helped. Im new to this board and looking for an angel/friend if anyone is interested????

I am glad someone put the gms vs. weight! It totally makes more sense and you will probably be fine! Doctor said they removed 5 lbs. TOTAL from me/ and I still had PLENTY, almost wish I had more removed!

I am scheduled for reduction in June, My insurance is paying for it however, one surgeon told me I may come out a B cup the second opinion said probably a C. Uncomfotable with either because I am a large person I asked about having an implant placed. I was told that because implants were placed under the muscle the weight would be removed from my painful back and shoulders but I would retain the breast size I want.
