Question:
I need help getting evaluations done for surgery approval.
Does anyone in Mass. know of a dietician or shrink that i can see for an eval for surgery? The one i saw last month wants me to eat like i already had surgery and keep a journal for a month before she will approve me. The dietician thinks i should just diet, period. I need help! Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what i should do? Thanks for your help. — Diane C. (posted on August 14, 2002)

Hi there! I live in RI but had my Psych visit in Taunton, MA-the Doctor was
Jean Boyd and she does a 1 time evaluation to determine if you are ok to go
through with the surgery. It took about 35 minutes, and she faxed it to my
surgeon the next week. My Surgeon had a shrink we could use but I couldn't
get an appointment for a couple months and this shrink took me 2 days after
I called. The evaluation was $250.00 but my insurance reimbursed me for it
(after 8 months, but none-the-less, I got the money back). I hope that
helps, email me if you need any more information!

I saw the dietician at one of the local hospitals. It was free and took
about 30 minutes. She just reveiwed the basic things with me and wrote up
the eval. I live in Kentucky but it might be worth it for you to call the
hospitals around you and ask, what could it hurt? Good luck and God bless.
